Commentary

This diminutive ink and watercolor sketch of the Cohoes Falls in upstate New York is one of only a handful of landscapes created by famed history painter and Revolutionary War veteran John Trumbull. Executed in 1791, this work is the earliest landscape in the Addison’s collection.
